Overview
We are very aware of the importance of data protection. In general we strive to comply with the GDPR and do not (and never will) sell any of our users' data. We collect some info about visitors for statistical purposes and from registered users we store some data necessary to show you your profile etc. In the next sections we will go into details about which data is collected and where it is stored.
Our data handling
The only way we store data about you is when you register. This data is stored in an encrypted, access-restricted database on our servers and backup media. For every registered user we store their username, email address, a password hash (so we do not have the user password in a readable format and can not restore it even if we wanted), the date and time of registration, whether the user deleted their account and in which language they used the website on their last visit.
Every time a user logs in we store that in our database together with a session token that gets set as a cookie in the user's browser. This is required so that the system remembers a user each time they navigate to another page of the website.
Last but not least we save for our registered users which words they added to their profile (by giving it a "star"). This is needed so we can show a list of the starred words in the profile. Furthermore every answer to the flashcards is saved in order to determine how long to hide a card before displaying it again.
Other services
We are using Google Analytics on our website to get insights about our visitors. That way we can see how many visitors we have in a day or per month, from which countries they come and which browsers they use. GA is setting a cookie to track your movement across our website so we can see for example how many people go from the start page to a wordlist page.
