    He did it out of spite, to get back at his neighbour.

    With the dative: насолить кому-либо.

    to salt (a quantity of), to pickle in brine, to salt downcooking

    Осенью мы насоли́ли огурцо́в на зи́му.

    In autumn we pickled cucumbers for the winter.

    Often with the partitive genitive: насолить огурцов.
