Usually a light, often thin curtain on a window; a heavy stage or door curtain is занавес.
Usage info
In the UK, "занавеска" are 'net curtains', 'voiles' etc. They are lightweight, and transparent. They are not closed at night. Don't confuse these with "Шторы", which in the UK are the traditional full curtain, which are not transparent and are closed at night.
