Он не хоте́л покида́ть родно́й го́род.
He did not want to leave his home town.
Imperfective; the perfective is покинуть. Stressed покида́ть.
2.
(rare) to throw (a number of things), to toss for a while
Мы покида́ли ка́мни в во́ду и пошли домой.
We threw stones into the water for a while and then went home.
A different word: perfective поки́дать (stress on the first и), from кидать.
