These words gave him courage.
Often with an abstract noun in the genitive or accusative: придать смелости, придать форму.
2.
to attach (importance), to attribute
Он не прида́л э́тому большо́го значе́ния.
He didn't attach much importance to it.
Mainly in придать значение чему-либо 'to attach importance to something'.
