Imperfective; perfective запереть. Often запирать на ключ (with a key) or на засов (with a bolt).

to lock in, to shut in, to confine
Она́ всегда́ запира́ет соба́ку в ко́мнате.
She always shuts the dog in the room.
With в + prepositional case for the place.
