фиг

Note: contrary to the description as a "very rarely-used word", on the contrary, фиг is extensively used in colloquial Russian, appearing in numerous idioms, and many other words are derived from it. It's often used to express strong emotions but without profanity, giving it a somewhat playful feel.

Examples:

1. Он обещал помочь, но в итоге показал мне фигу. "He promised to help, but in the end he gave me nothing (literally: showed me a fig)."
2. Я хотел купить этот телефон, но денег — фиг с маслом. "I wanted to buy that phone, but I had absolutely no money."
3. Ты думаешь, он извинится? Да фиг там! "You think he’ll apologize? No way!"
4. Она сказала, что всё сделает сама, но ни фига не получилось. "She said she’d do everything herself, but nothing worked out."

9. Ты обещал прийти вовремя, а сам — ни фига подобного. "You promised to come on time, but nothing like that happened."
10. Я думал, будет легко, но оказалось — фигушки. "I thought it would be easy, but it turned out to be no such thing."
11. Денег он не дал — фиг с два дождёшься от него помощи. "He didn’t give any money—you’ll never get help from him."
12. Она говорит, что не злится, но по лицу видно — фиг там. "She says she’s not angry, but it’s obvious that’s not true."
13. Я спросил у него совета, а он — фигню какую-то сказал. "I asked him for advice, and he said some nonsense."
14. Мы планировали поездку, но всё сорвалось — фиг пойми почему. "We planned a trip, but everything fell apart—who knows why."
15. Он утверждает, что не виноват, но это — фигня полная. "He claims he’s not guilty, but that’s complete nonsense."
