In a year he will reach retirement age.
Perfective; the imperfective is достигать. Takes the genitive: достигнуть цели.

Мы дости́гли успе́ха в перегово́рах.
We achieved success in the negotiations.
Perfective; used with abstract objects in the genitive (успеха, согласия).
