Of reading quickly or leafing through; also used of viewing a film or footage.

The editor carefully reviews the manuscript.
Of a careful check of documents, work or applications.
3.
(rare) to overlook, to miss
Корре́ктор иногда́ просма́тривает опеча́тки.
The proofreader sometimes misses typos.
More usual in the perfective просмотреть.
