Он затеса́л кол, что́бы вбить его в зе́млю.
He sharpened the stake so he could drive it into the ground.
Of wood: to cut the end of a log or stake to a point with an axe.
2.
(rare) to blaze (a tree), to notch, to cut a mark intoforestry
Охо́тник затеса́л де́рево, что́бы не заблуди́ться на обра́тном пути́.
The hunter blazed the tree so he would not get lost on the way back.
Typically of marking trees along a path with axe cuts.

Examples

He rough-hewed the end of the stick so it would be easier to drive into the ground.

The worker sharpened the stake for the fence.
