He was ill all winter.
Perfective; stresses that the illness lasted a stated period of time.

(rare) to worry (about somebody for a while), to be anxious (for a period)
Мать проболе́ла за сы́на всё э́то вре́мя.
The mother worried about her son the whole time.
With «за» + accusative.

(rare) to root (for a team for a while), to cheer on (for a period)sports
Он проболе́л за свою́ кома́нду весь сезо́н.
He rooted for his team the whole season.
Colloquial; with «за» + accusative.
