Often with в (a place) or от (a feeling): томиться в тюрьме, томиться от жажды.

Дети томи́лись от ску́ки на уро́ке.
The children were bored stiff in class.
Of tedium or exhausting waiting.

to stew, to simmer, to braisecooking
Мя́со томи́тся в пе́чи два ча́са.
The meat simmers in the oven for two hours.
Of food cooking gently in a covered pot or oven.

Examples

Она долго томилась в полоне у соседей.
She languished in captivity among her neighbors for a long time.
Мясо томится на медленном огне два часа.
The meat simmers over low heat for two hours.
Он томился от скуки весь день.
He was bored out of his mind all day.
