to get drunk, to get tight
Он напива́ется ка́ждую пя́тницу.
He gets drunk every Friday.
Often with до́ + genitive of the state reached.
2.
to drink one's fill, to quench one's thirst
Ло́шади напива́лись из ручья́.
The horses were drinking their fill from the stream.
Usually with the genitive of the liquid.
