to shield oneself, to screen oneself, to cover oneself (with something)
Он заслоня́лся руко́й от я́ркого со́лнца.
He shielded his eyes from the bright sun with his hand.
Usually with от + genitive; often with a hand or an object.
2.
to be blocked, to be obscured, to be pushed into the background
Вид на ре́ку заслоня́ется новыми дома́ми.
The view of the river is blocked by new buildings.
Passive of заслонять; also figurative, of one thing crowding out another.
3.
(rare) to start loafing about, to begin to wander around
Он заслоня́лся по ко́мнате из угла́ в у́гол.
He started wandering about the room from corner to corner.
A different verb (за- + слоняться); colloquial and rare.
