Usually followed by после + genitive naming the illness.

He put on a lot of weight over the winter.

to correct oneself
Он оговори́лся, но сейча́с же попра́вился.
He misspoke but corrected himself at once.
4.
to improve, to take a turn for the better
Дела постепе́нно попра́вились.
Things gradually improved.
Of affairs, finances, the weather.
