Father is fixing the bike in the garage.
Imperfective; used both of machinery and of clothes. The perfective is починить.
2.
to sharpen (a pencil), to point
Он чи́нит каранда́ш перочи́нным ножо́м.
He is sharpening the pencil with a penknife.
Chiefly with карандаш; the perfective is очинить or починить.
3.
to cause, to create (obstacles), to put in the way (obstacles)
Вла́сти чини́ли препя́тствия журнали́стам.
The authorities put obstacles in the way of the journalists.
Formal; mainly in set phrases such as чинить препятствия 'put obstacles in the way' and чинить суд и расправу 'mete out justice'.
