Of holes, bottles, ears etc.; often with an instrumental for the stopper.
2.
to stick, to thrust, to tuck
Он заткну́л газе́ту за по́яс.
He tucked the newspaper into his belt.
Usually with за + accusative or в + accusative.
3.
to shut up, to silence, to gag
Заткни́ рот и слу́шай!
Shut your mouth and listen!
Colloquial and rude; usually заткнуть рот кому-л. or the imperative заткни(сь).
