With dative: отдаться работе/науке.

Она́ отдала́сь воспомина́ниям.
She gave herself up to her memories.
With dative: отдаться воспоминаниям, отдаться судьбе.
3.
to resound, to reverberate, to echo, to ring
Вы́стрел отда́лся э́хом в гора́х.
The shot echoed through the mountains.
Of sounds, often with эхом or в + prepositional.
4.
to give oneself (to a man)
Она́ отдала́сь ему в тот же ве́чер.
She gave herself to him that very evening.

Examples

He's gonna have to throw himself on the mercy of the court.
Он отдался работе полностью и без остатка.
He devoted himself to his work completely and without reserve.
