Usage info
Used only in the singular in modern Russian. The plural forms ("пламена́", "пламён" etc.) are archaic or poetic. To refer to individual flames, use "языки́ пла́мени" (tongues of flame).
Examples
Пла́мя свечи колы́шется на мя́гком ветерке́.
The candle's flame is flickering in the soft breeze.
Пламя быстро обугливает сухую траву.
The flames quickly char the dry grass.
Пламя, пожирающее дом, было видно издалека.
The flames devouring the house could be seen from far away.
