to rely on, to count on, to depend on
Я полага́юсь на вас и на ваш о́пыт.
I rely on you and on your experience.
на кого? на что? — with на + accusative
2.
to be due (to someone), to be entitled to
Мне полага́ется две неде́ли о́тпуска.
I am due two weeks of holiday.
Impersonal: кому полагается что — the person is in the dative.
3.
to be supposed to, to be the done thing
Всё бы́ло сде́лано как полага́ется.
Everything was done as it should be.
Usually impersonal: как полагается 'as one should'; так не полагается 'that is not done'.

Examples

На слова Джима нельзя полага́ться, потому что он пыта́ется угоди́ть ка́ждому.
You cannot rely upon Jim's words since he tries to please everybody.
Мы слишком полага́емся на нашу интуи́цию.
We put too much faith in our intuition.
Я полностью полага́юсь на Тома.
I have complete confidence in Tom.
Тебе полагается рассла́биться.
You're supposed to be relaxing.
Не полага́йтесь на други́х.
Don't rely on others.
