to shine a light (for someone), to light the way
Свети́ мне фона́риком, я ничего не ви́жу.
Shine the flashlight for me, I can't see anything.
With dative of the person and instrumental of the light source.

Examples

Утром сего́дня шёл снег, днём све́тит со́лнце, а к ве́черу будет гроза́.
This morning it snowed, the sun is shining at noon, and by this evening there will be a thunderstorm.
Со́лнце све́тит ясно.
The sun is shining brightly.
