Usage info
This verb is about the physical process of hanging something up like a coat or a picture.
It is not to be confused with висеть - повисеть which is about something that is already hanging/dangling.
Examples
Потому что они пове́сили его вверх нога́ми.
Because they hung it upside down.
Я вежливо отказа́лся от его предложе́ния и пове́сил тру́бку.
I politely turned down his offer and hung up.
