In that shop they often didn't give us all of our change.
Typically about money, change or a quantity that fell short.
2.
to add (a bit more), to give extra
Он всегда́ додаёт немно́го со́ли.
He always adds a little more salt.
Uncommon; добавля́ть/доба́вить is the usual word.
3.
(rare) to give (strength or confidence), to lend (someone) extra
Ма́ма всегда́ додава́ла нам сил в тру́дные времена́.
Mum always gave us extra strength in hard times.

Usage info

This verb is not common in modern Russian and has largely been replaced by the verbs "Добавля́ть/Доба́вить" and "Прибавля́ть/Приба́вить".
