Коми́ссия заседа́ет уже́ три ча́са.
The committee has been in session for three hours already.
Of a committee, court, parliament or other official body.
2.
to sit (in a body), to have a seat, to serve (on a council)
Он заседа́ет в городско́м сове́те.
He sits on the city council.
Usually with в + prepositional: заседать в парламенте.
3.
to sit around, to be stuck
Э́то зна́чит, что мы бу́дем здесь заседа́ть неде́лю, е́сли пона́добится.
That means we'll be stuck here for a week if we have to.
Colloquial and often ironic.
