Он ступи́л на зе́млю.
He set foot on land.
Perfective; usually with на + accusative.
2.
to take a step, to stride
Он с трудо́м ступи́л шаг вперёд.
He took a step forward with difficulty.
Often in negative phrases: шагу ступить не может - he cannot take a single step.

Examples

В 1969 году челове́к впервые ступи́л на лу́нную пове́рхность.
For the first time, in 1969, man touched the lunar surface.
Я больше и ша́гу не могу́ ступи́ть.
I can't take another step.
Я так уста́л, что ша́гу не могу́ ступи́ть.
I am so tired that I can't walk another step.
На пути́ к пра́вде можно соверши́ть всего две оши́бки: не ступи́ть на него и не дойти́ до конца́.
