Usually with за + accusative naming the activity.

to hole up, to settle in, to entrench oneself, to shut oneself away
Партиза́ны засе́ли в лесу́.
The partisans holed up in the forest.
Of staying put at home, in a place, or of troops taking cover.
3.
to get stuck, to stick fast, to lodge
Оско́лок засе́л в гру́ди.
A splinter lodged in his chest.
Also figurative: засесть в голове 'stick in one's mind'.

Examples

He decided to buckle down and study his textbooks before the exam.
