The bog was slowly sucking him in.
Also figurative: draw someone into a conflict or an affair.

(rare) to take a drag, to inhale (smoke)
Он глубоко затя́гивался сигаре́той.
He took a deep drag on his cigarette.
Normally used in the reflexive form затягиваться.
