Usage info

There are three main verbs that correspond to the English verb to study - изучать, учиться and заниматься. The verb изучать is used to indicate the subject one is taking at university, college or school. The subject studied is the direct object of the verb изучать. It must be in the accusative case and must always be mentioned in the sentence:

Что ты изучаешь?
Я изучаю математику

Examples

Если бы она не изуча́ла здесь англи́йский, она бы не смогла́ сдать экза́мен.If she had not studied English here, she could not have passed the examination.
