    The monks sat in silence with their eyes fixed downwards.

    Used of eyes or gaze; the reflexive уставиться is far more common.

    Он аккура́тно уста́вил сту́лья в ряд.

    He neatly arranged the chairs in a row.

    Dated; modern Russian prefers расставить or настроить.
