Usage info
Always use нельзя́ to negate мо́жно (never не мо́жно) a) Using perfective with нельзя means that the action is impossible: Дверь нельзя открыть = The door cannot be opened (it doesn't open). b) Using imperfective with нельзя means that the action is prohibited or undesirable: Здесь нельзя курить = No smoking.
Examples
- Ему нельзя доверя́ть.He can't be trusted.
- Вам нельзя де́лать э́то здесь. Вообще, вам нельзя де́лать э́то нигде.You can't do that here. In fact, you aren't allowed to do that anywhere.
- Поэтому: что можно, то можно; чего нельзя, того́ нельзя; что невозможно, то невозможно; что возможно, то и можно.That's why: what's allowed is allowed, what's forbidden is forbidden, what's impossible is impossible, and what's possible is that which is allowed.
